Dream
Journaling

A real time novel generator with EEG data translated into nonsensical text, inspired by techniques such as automatic writing and dream journaling.

01: Novel

Brain activity drives the generation of sentences in real time, with the content based on Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted, a dream index that assigns meanings to various keywords one might encounter in their dreams. These words are categorised into adjectives, nouns, verbs, and so on, then randomly combined to form sentences. As the user interacts, the novel unfolds dynamically, reflecting their mental state in a constantly evolving narrative that bridges subconscious thought with real-time storytelling.

The radio module's audio was too quiet due to insufficient power for high-impedance speakers. Switching to earphones resolved the issue, improving clarity and enhancing the intimate, personal engagement central to the project.

Additionally, disruptive noise during frequency changes was resolved by introducing a two-second delay in EEG data processing, ensuring smooth auditory transitions without sacrificing responsiveness.

02: A Dream Receipt

A thermal printer was connected to print out the dream journal in real time. Could this be a way of automatic writing on a typewriter for modern surrealists? It is like a receipt for your dreams.
